Bethany House Orphanage
Saclepea, Liberia
Mother Rebekah Dargbeh and her late husband Henry loved children. During the Liberian civil war (1989-1997) and the Ebola outbreak (2014-2015) they readily opened their doors to receive the children whose parents had passed away.
The buildings within the orphanage compound were originally made from kiln dried mud bricks with a thin coat of cement to protect the mud. Over time, weather and rain deteriorated the bricks and eventually many of the original buildings become unfit to live in.
Bethany House Orphanage was acquired by WEO in 2017, when Dr. Arnold visited the site and promised Mot. Rebekah to help restore the orphanage to allow continued lodging and care for the many orphans that resided there. Since that time, improvements to the site have been on-going to allow the orphanage to remain open and maintain full accreditation status with the Liberian Ministry of Gender and Child Protection Services.
